Two houses for rent

Starting October 1st, a so-called T2 is available for rent at Termas da Azenha. T2 is a common term in Portugal, meaning the house has two bedrooms – a highly sought-after feature. Many families consist of two parents and a child, and they want two bedrooms.

T2 for rent at Termas da Azenha

Termas da Azenha is a small village – a tiny community unto itself, tucked just around the bend from the mainstream world. The eight buildings offer privacy; everyone does their own thing, yet you don’t live in anonymity.

Current residents include: the Dutch owners, Ellen and son Broes, who live in the old bathhouse with foster son, Hugo; a German-Dutch marketing couple with a 4-year-old son; a Dutch retiree who loves to roam around; a Portuguese widow who works at the care home across the valley; a Portuguese couple of which she is a former cook and causes delicious aromas sometimes; a South African woman who runs an fig farm nearby; a German furniture maker; and a Belgian mechanic.

There is also a German family of five who rent a house year-round but only stay for a limited time each year – an arrangement that works well. A Belgian couple does the same with a small apartment across the road. Both families value the security of having a holiday home where they can leave their belongings, and where they don’t have to do anything about maintenance and so on, whilst it’s secure all year round because of our presence.

In short, we are flexible. It’s great when our tenants are, too—allowing us to relate to one another as people who can simply discuss things if a non-standard request arises.

The other house is a T1

It has been dubbed the “Bird House” because of its mosaics. Seventy square meters, two exterior doors, one bedroom, a bathroom the same size as the bedroom, an open-plan kitchen, and a furnished living area. There is a laundry room for the washing machine, an entrance hall for coats and the like, and a storage area.

There is a large terrace in front of the house and a parking space beside it.

Termas da Azenha is located almost exactly halfway between the airports of Porto and Lisbon. It is 12 km from the coast (as the crow flies), 20 km from Figueira da Foz, and 40 km from Coimbra. The small train station of Bifurcação de Lares is 5 km away, and the bus to Soure departs from the neighboring village, just 1 km away.

So, it is easily accessible, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. We have always really appreciated that – not completely isolated, but peaceful. As long as our spring water keeps flowing (which it has for centuries), the rent includes water. Electricity is charged separately based on usage, and you can easily arrange internet access using a mobile 4G or 5G router with a SIM card of your choice. The cheapest plan costs 10 euros a month for unlimited, high-speed internet. You can also arrange your own TV service, though experience shows that tenants – especially those from abroad – are generally not interested in TV; you can find and watch virtually anything online.

Both houses are available from October 1st. If you are interested, please contact us via email (info@termas-da-azenha.com) or WhatsApp (+351 963 809 529). We usually use a standard contract, but sometimes there are unique requirements, and we can likely accommodate those.

And you probably want to know the monthly rent, too…

(Disclaimer: I’m a bit tired of the keyword stuff and Google’s dictatorship. So here they are, and I’m also hoping for the cleverness of AI in this matter that it will still be found and read, but that I don’t have to force myself to use the right terms in the title and headings. #houseforrent #longtermrental #rentinPortugal )

We moved here in 2000 from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to the Termas-da-Azenha, Portugal. We started to rebuild one of portugals cultural heirlooms: Termas-da-Azenha, an old spa. You’ll find mosaics and paintings everywhere. Since Covid we rent the houses for a longer period of time, not as holiday houses anymore.

Each week a little blog about what is happening around us. An easy read. A few minutes in another world. A little about what it going on in Portugal. If you plan your holiday to Portugal, it might be a nice preparation.

In the weekend we publish it on Bluesky, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram.
