Wanted: new tenants and handy volunteers

“Could also be a handy tenant” I say to a friend, when we chat again, “one could combine the two. Then I’ll offer one or more months rent-free – depending on what we can agree.” She laughs out loud: “Yes, you can offer that, hahaha! I have no idea where you could find them though, handy people who also want to rent something in Portugal.

We’re looking for tenants and handy volunteers

My friend doesn’t believe in it, but I think: well, one can hope, one can try! There is quite a large group of interested parties in the north of Europe, if I can believe the information on the internet. In the Netherlands, Germany, UK and Belgium there are certainly people who dream of a future in Portugal.

And who are handy, and want to rent.

In any case, Portugal is high in the top 10 of popular destinations to emigrate to. At several international emigration fairs it’s certainly a well-visited destination. The group of interested parties is also becoming increasingly diverse: people with an online business or webshop & coaches, pensioners, mixed marriages and young families who do not want their children to grow up in all the stress and political agitation.

Not only people who want to start a B&B or campsite. (There are enough of those, I guess.)

Portuguese people themselves are also looking for housing, since the government started to attract remote workers with special visas and tax regulations. The condition is that you have to have a monthly turnover of more than 3,400 euros. In a city like Lisbon you can rent nice things with such a budget, and certainly outside of the big.

Just look at us: for 1,900 euros per month you can rent the Casa Principal

A house with 3 floors: very large work space or community space, garden, orchard, 2 holiday homes (with licenses) and on the top floor a large house with living room, kitchen, bathroom with bath, and 5 bedrooms. Plus 5-star quality mineral water.

So you can also earn back your rent by renting out the holiday homes!

We are going to thoroughly clean it starting the 1st of February – that’s why we also search for handy volunteers – when the previous tenants have moved out, and then it will be available from the 1st of March. “You need to have a clear idea of your ideal tenant profile,” says another friend, “then you know where to look.”

To be honest, I don’t really know, because I can appreciate a wide range of people. Who is it suitable for? People who love the outdoors, (vegetable) gardening, crafts men in need of a large workshop, people who love mosaics, walking, the beach (not far) and want to live in a small community.

Are you or do you know someone like that? Respond! And we will be extremely grateful to all dear readers who know of ways to bring this to international attention.

We moved here in 2000 from Rotterdam, Holland to the Termas-da-Azenha, Portugal.

A big step, especially with two small children.

We are busy to rebuild one of portugals cultural heirlooms: Termas-da-Azenha, an old spa which has been turned into several holiday houses, rooms and a campsite.

You’ll find mosaics and paintings everywhere.

Since 2018 we call ourselves the first B&B&B in the world – Bed & Breakfast & Bathrobes. You can buy a home-made unique bathrobe/housecoat with us.

Each week a little blog about what is happening around us. An easy read. A few minutes in another world. A little about what it going on in Portugal. If you plan your holiday to Portugal, it might be a nice preparation
