Thirty thousand years ago. Then when people felt the urge to go elsewhere, they turned to their wise woman or shaman, packed their flints and coconuts, and started walking.

We do things a little differently these days. We grab our phone and turn to a search engine

We’re no longer as surprised as the old people; we already know a lot in advance when we travel. And usually we don’t walk either. We first have to go through a mountain of choices, before we can determine where we want to go. Fueled by the feeling that you have to get out for a while.

Just out of the ordinary course of business, nothing on your mind for a while, just getting away from it all.

For us, hosts, intermediaries and travel agencies, it’s therefore important that you, aspiring sloths, can find us well. How, oh how, do you get that coveted first place_ How are you going to be number one? I’ll tell you, that’s an even bigger mountain of choices to climb!

Moreover, those search engines are quite secretive, so how those spiders and algorithms do their job is not widely known. Some specialists know all about it, through experience and through study. It seems they like to do it too.

Very special, because at a nice moment I sometimes get some different cravings then climbing mountains.

Suppose you feel the urge to pack up your coconuts and look elsewhere. What are you doing? There are people who still go to a travel agency. Many travel agencies also have a site, of course, as do all intermediaries, and all hotels and B&B’s.

Just type: B&B in Portugal. What’s your number one?

Yours is probably different from mine. That’s because we all walk our own little paths on the web. The search engines know that, and if you ask me, they all know their power too, no matter how big or small they are. Ecosia as good as Google.

Search engines are just like people – if you’re friendly with them, they’ll do anything for you. Now it is of course a little different, because you can smile very warmly at your phone, as you would with a human being, but search engines do not respond to that.

You have to be nice in a very special way: search engine friendly

Pooh! I like that you can hire specialists for that. Maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned, but I find people a lot easier in that area.

Maybe it’s because I live in Portugal; people here are naturally friendly and smile at everyone.
