What happens during a mosaic workshop

It’s an activity for a day – to do a mosaic workshop. It’s a calming, meditative activity, but you can also chat well.

I had everything ready for the two unexpected guests who like to do a mosaic wqrkshop

“I already know what I’m going to make,” he said enthusiastically, “the symbols for the elements.”

Nicole makes a disappointed face: “Oooo, I wanted to do that!” They look at each other and laugh. Me too. “If you are such a unity as you are, well… you get that. You think the same.”

Paul smiles and says: “I’m always so enthusiastic, and then I start making up all kinds of things, and then sometimes Nicole gets annoyed because then I start telling her what to do … so I just hold back a little now.” Nicole looks at him sweetly. And I view this lovely scene with a feeling of: oh yes, that’s how it was …

They haven’t even known each other that long, but they moved in together when the virus struck in March. That may have been a bit quick, but it was either that or stay away from each other for nobody knew how long – months. And when you just fell in love, that is an impossible task.

“It took us quite a while to make the decision to leave,” says Nicole as she places the colored pieces of tile on her design. I think long? You have not known each other for a year, and it is quite a big decision to leave everything behind and see if Portugal is a good country to live in.

Nicole is busy with the elements, while Paul is mosaicing a large mushroom

You can be busy in silence, when you make a mosaic, but often whole life stories surface. “Oh yes”, I think as they say, “that’s the way it was, when you’re young, it might take you a while to decide something like that, but you’re going to do it. And then so enthusiastic. So full of zest and lust-for-life – so sweet! ”

My mom used to say, “Hey, watch it! You can’t talk and knit at the same time!” – but that is not true with mosaic making. You can talk and make a mosaic at the same time.

Just look, the result of their first mosaic artwork is not disappointing, is it?

We moved here in 2000 from Rotterdam, Holland to the Termas-da-Azenha, Portugal. A big step, especially with two small children. We are busy to rebuild one of portugals cultural heirlooms: Termas-da-Azenha, an old spa which has been turned into several holiday homes, rooms and a small campsite, with a swimming pool, games like pingpong, foossball, pool, boardgames, and a FancyDressingRoom. You’ll find mosaics and paintings everywhere.

The old bathhouse is going to be a museum, where you can see how things have changed. The healing mineral water still runs through the baths, and is still of an excellent quality. Since 2018 we call ourselves the first B&B&B in the world – Bed & Breakfast & Bathrobes. You can buy a unique bathrobe or kimono in our webshop, or order one tailor-made, completely to your wishes.

Each week a little blog about what is happening around us. An easy read. A few minutes in another world. A little about what it going on in Portugal. If you plan your holiday to Portugal, it might be a nice preparation. We have some nice special offers on our site.

You can subscribe to this blog. You’ll get it every weekend in your mailbox.

On Sunday morning we publish it on our Facebook, on Pinterest, and on monday on LinkedIn.
